Caramel Trumps Pumpkin

There are some things I've been wanting to get off my chest, so thank a frog it's Wednesday again. Here's your weekly installment of confessions, this time with no rhyme, no reason, and no BS. Let's get to the soul cleansing...

Listen. I know you're all pee-your-pants excited that the PSL is back. And look, I love it too. But I only get about one or two per season. Three tops. Because you know what's better than pumpkin everything? Apple. Apple everything. GO AHEAD AND TELL ME I'M WRONG. More apple stuff for me.
I'll never not use this gif when it's applicable.
Also. ALSO. Very important. The Salted Caramel Mocha. The SCM. Do it. Yes, I prefer this to the PSL. Seriously underrated seasonal drink at Sbux. I've always been one to root for the underdog.

I cut cable when I moved into my new place. Between Netflix and Amazon Prime and my inability to commit, I never watched a whole lot of real-time TV anyway, so it made sense. But it's football season, so it looks like I'm about to become a regular at the bar around the corner. Related: Because I'm a plan-in-advance kinda gal, anyone want to have me over to watch the Oscars next year? I've never missed a broadcast in my life and I'm not about to start.

(Related: I was born on Academy Award night in 1989. During the announcement for Best Picture. Rain Man won Best Picture that year and Dustin Hoffman won Best Actor. #funfacts.)

Also related if you go back to the root: I've been watching nothing but Teen Mom 2 reruns. Thank you, Amazon Prime for feeding my addiction to teenage baby mama drama.

Also Kieffer makes me want to throw up every time he speaks. GIRL, BYE.
It's officially official. I am registered for my half marathon next month. Of course, I've known I'd run this race for some time. But now that I've thrown my hard-earned dollhairs at it, it's legit. I'm doing it. Someone hold me.

Last week sometime I crossed a major threshold. I officially (I like when things are official, obviously) went one full year without corresponding with a particular person, with whom I've had an aggressively rocky, painful, and confusing relationship since our first meeting about 150 years ago. The end of last summer also marked the end of that relationship, but part of me worried that that goodbye would go the way of so many of our previous goodbyes, which were only half-assed "see ya laters" that fell apart months in, sucking me back into the storm. A full year later it's pretty clear that I've finally made it out of the woods for good. And I'm celebrating this, because a few years ago I never thought I'd be able to do this.

I get irrationally angry when I run past other runners on the street and they do literally nothing to acknowledge me. Why are you so antisocial? Not that we need to stop and chat, but a courtesy wave? A nod? A super big smile and thumbs up like that one older gentleman who always makes me smile for a good quarter mile because he just seems so excited to be alive? Nothing? I don't get it. Especially the ones who appear to go out of their way to not acknowledge others. They make me mad, which is probably ridiculous.
Me, whenever I cross paths with an unfriendly runner.
Also, there are way, way, way too many cyclists in my town and they need to settle down a bit. This isn't Tour de France, guys. It's Mountain Avenue.

Whew, that felt good. Right? It's always nice to get the important stuff off our chests. What confessions are you spilling today?

Linking up with Kathy, as always.

  2. haha I love this. I will say a caramel sundae trumps all of that coffee shit, because I don't drink coffee. I don't like pumpkin flavoured anything unless it's soup, and apple is good unless they've tried to poison me with cinnamon as well.
    moving on.
YAY CONGRATS on signing up officially for your half marathon, and going a year without talking to that person yay yay all the yays.
Um, I am super awkward and awful when I run. I half smile half grimace and I am so ashamed of how slow I am going that I rarely look people in the eye. Sometimes I half smile at them but I have no idea if they saw me because I wasn't looking. I know, I'm horrible. It's awful though, it makes me so anxious and weird. I have just started to wave to people who are outside their houses (gardening and the like) so at least I am getting better. I think it's because we don't really wave to people in Sydney, but I always said hello to people when I was walking in Melbourne, so who knows. I'm just a nutter, and socially awkward, so I curl up in my shell which might come across as super rude to other runners. I'll try and be better. Meanwhile I watched that gif 10 times and felt so bad for that guy left hanging. I will shake your hand, mr baseball man.

  3. I haven't been to Starbucks in months but now that you reminded me of the greatness that is the salted caramel mocha, I think a trip is in my very near future... totally on team scm!

  4. Visiting from the link up. I 100% agree that the salted caramel mocha is far superior to the PSL. Watching re-runs of Teen Mom 2 is the ultimate confidence boost; I may not have my life together but I also don't have a Kieffer in my life!

  5. I like pumpkin everything, but sometimes it is a little too much. Caramel never fails though. I think I'm going to have to try the Salted Caramel Mocha. It sounds delish!

  6. I feel so bad for that guy in the gif - that's just terrible!! I agree - I love making apple pies in the fall - just the best!

  7. Agreed on the PSL thing. I like them but I only get a few a season. I definitely had a salted caramel mocha today per your recommendation, haha!
I honestly think registering is one of the hardest parts of training. Good for you! It's official now YAY!!!
Can't you get an antenna and still watch regular TV? I don't really know how TV works but I know we haven't had cable in years and we still watch the Oscars so unless Ben is doing some kind of black magic I think you can do that?
I am that antisocial runner like 50% of the time. Oops. I prefer to call it "focused" :P I will acknowledge you if you acknowledge me, unless I legitimately didn't hear you (a very real possibility given the volume level of my headphones. Oops again.)

  9. I love the SMELL of pumpkin-y things but I'm with you... apple wins the taste test all the way!

  10. I just found your blog from Tracy's! HI! :) You had me caramel apple.... SO much better than pumpkin!! Teen Mom, 16 and pregnant.... I'm embarrassingly addicted to those reruns too. It happens!

  11. I'm all for the salted caramel over the pumpkin too. Any day of the week. Yay for REALLY closing the door on toxic relationships which is SO very hard to do.

  12. Myabe those other runners are just in a zone? Maybe some RBF? I've been known to not even acknowledge people I know walking down the street because I'm in a zone. Some people probably think I'm rude, but I swear I'm not trying to be! I've also become very good friends with my local bartenders, I'm cutting my cable in a week!

  13. YES! I don't like PSL or pumpkin flavored anything really, but as soon as fall hits I'm so excited for apple everything and will be trying the salted caramel mocha the next time I'm at Starbucks! Anddd I happened upon the current season of Teen Mom 2 last night and Jenelle's new BF is possibly even more crazy than Kieffer!

  14. I only do the PSL 1-3 times per season also. Otherwise it's too much. I do love pumpkin pie and muffins though. Other than that, I don't go crazy for it. Oh, and the seeds. NOMZ!

Caramel anything is a winner so why people don't already support this is beyond me.

  15. Apple anything over pumpkin anything... any day of the week or season of the year. I dont get the pumpkin obsession (and over here they LOVE pumpkin ... dont get it).

Also no cable is actually pretty sensible. I rarely watch anything in real time, I catch the re-runs for most things or stream or DVR. But i never miss my red carpets either!!! Toughy!!

Yay for the half marathon! You will rock it :)

  16. I completed my half last weekend. The soreness is currently over-riding the feeling of success I feel. Maybe I should get one of the 13.1 stickers for my car and I'd feel like I accomplished something, lol.

Also, you win the internets for "this isn't Tour de France." I cackled out loud at that and read it to my office-mate. I ALWAYS wave at other runners and cyclists and drivers that at least cross the yellow line to give me extra room. I get irrationally angry when people don't wave back. Fuckers, we're suffering together, at least acknowledge me, it's not that bad. I have big bouncy boobs, that alone is worth a wave.

Finally, I usually only get 1-2 PSL per season, mostly because I'm cheap and Starbucks is expensive and all the way across town (I live in BFE) and peppermint mochas are so much better that I order them year-round. Christmas is where its at.
