Amazing October

It's October 1, and I'm equal parts overjoyed and anxious beyond belief. Today's going to be short and sweet, because October is one of my busiest months this year and I've really gotta get a move on.
Here's what's on my plate this month:

  • A trip to Cape Cod, finally! I talked a little bit about my love for the Cape here, and I'm so glad I finally get to go. I usually make a summer trip, but it just wasn't in the cards for this year. It'll be a short long weekend trip, but it will be with big bro and some cousins we only see a few times a year, plus we'll be staying with my g-rents as usual, so I'm looking forward to having a soul-soothing mini-vacation.
  • My little cousin's college football team playing here in NJ, which means a big family gathering to watch. I'll be 100% real with you guys, my family is dealing with some stuff right now. But hopefully a fun day together will help bring us all back to earth.
  • A three-day yoga workshop with my she-doesn't-know-it-yet BFF, Erin Motz. (Yes, I'm a total creep.) Three days of non-stop yoga. THREE DAYS. I can't wait.
  • My cousin's baby's first birthday and coinciding birthday party. She's the cutest, the end.
  • My first big race, the half marathon. Gulp.
  • One of my dearest friends' birthday, coinciding with Halloween. I don't have a costume yet, and yes, I'm panicking.
  • Meeting up with my wonderful bloggy friend, Kay!

So it's going to be a hectic one, to say the least. I'm looking forward to everything on that list, but I'm also trying to fill the *one* weekend day that I don't have something scheduled on with a nice fall activity — apple picking? horseback riding? another, more colorful trip to the waterfall? We'll see!

But I'm also going to make a very focused effort to stress less this month. September was one of the most stressful months I've had in a long time. I didn't sleep well most nights, I worked late/brought work home with me several times per week, I took on too many side projects and was unforgiving with my to do's. Because of all this, my limits were pushed and I was easily stressed out by little things, which just added fuel to the fire.

This month I'm going to try to scale back and focus on the things I need to focus on. Some things are going to be put on hold — career stuff, car shopping, a side project I know better than to worry about right now — and I'm trying to be more present, less crazy. And since we'll be battling Mercury Retrograde for most of the month, I had to go in with a plan:

I'm hoping to deepen my yoga practice and add a few longer, deep relaxation practices with meditation to my week in addition to my daily morning "quickies."
I'm going to get back to journaling daily gratitude, which I haven't done in months. 
I'm keeping my monthly goal list to 10 items, where I'm usually in the 15-ish range.

Here's hoping for an amazing October. I mean, it's too beautiful a month to squander on stress.

  3. Sounds like you have a lot of fun stuff planned for October!!! I have never been to Cape Cod but I would love to go. I really want to start back with yoga, it has been years since I have done it and I really want to make it part of my regular routine.

  8. Busy girl! Lots of fun stuff going on. Never been to Cape Cod, but I would love to go. So you better take a ton of pics and let me live through you!
    A 3 day yoga workshop, I've never done yoga, but I would love to get more into it.
    And the race---so excited for you! You are going to do great!!!!

    SO EXCITED for your half (duh).
    It wouldn't be unreasonable for me to fly to NJ to do yoga for 3 days right?! Ugh so jealous that you get to go!

  10. I think doing a daily gratitude journal is such a great idea, I need to do that. It's so easy to just see all the negative! The best thing going on this month for me is my birthday (yay!) and I also get to meet a bloggy friend!

  13. Ok, wait... There's just so much to comment on! One, hugs and thoughts to your family. Second, you're going to do awesome on your race. Three, when/where are you meeting Kay. I may need to crash your get together :) Four, the yoga thing, you're meeting with her? The Florida retreat? Or am I missing something?

  14. October is soooooo amazing!!! I can't wait to meet up at the end of the month. Something threatened that this week (a presentation for masters almost made me have to cancel the NYC portion of the trip and come home 3 days early) but i think i got out of it. I think ..... Lets hope because i am way too excited!
