Mini life update: I'm freelancing on-site right now, in a very strange office environment where people who have to concentrate and write error-free copy sit in the same tiny space as people who need to be on the phone and holding meetings eight hours a day. It's...going well. I've been keeping my headphones in most of the time, with or without tunes on, because at least the headphones muffle the noise and discourage people from trying to chit chat about how hot it's been (ugh) while I'm trying to line edit.

(I'm not antisocial; I just care about the quality of my work, yanno?)

Anyway, so when I do have the tunes on, here's what's been playing:

Hozier – Work Song
Citizen Cope & Carlos Santana – Sideways
Fleetwood Mac – Dreams
Postmodern Jukebox & Haley Reinhart – Creep (Radiohead cover)
Ryn Weaver – OctaHate
The Sweet Remains – Dance With Me
The XX – Intro
Justin Nozuka – After Tonight
James Bay – When We Were On Fire
Mumford & Sons – Snake Eyes
John Mayer – XO (Beyonce cover)
Joni Mitchell – A Case of You

It's interesting to see how my playlist goes through cycles. At the beginning of the summer, it's all EDM, country rock, and pop music—it's windows down music and sunroof open music. It's heartbeat-raising music. It's ready to run wild music.

I know I'm not original or unique in this statement at all, and yet I know others will call it heresy: I'm ready for fall. I'm ready to take it down a notch. I'm ready to slow down.

What songs do you have on rotation lately? Are you still fist-pumping or are you ready for bonfire tunes like me?

  1. Full disclosure, I don't think I've heard ANY of these songs. Checking them out now.

  2. Oh my gosh I haven't listened to after tonight in the longest time- takes me back! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  3. I was in a musicals mood for a very, very long time. I've been listening to my show tunes Pandora station for over a year now, and I've got some Disney stuff, but I'm finally getting tired of it and drifting over to more energetic stuff. Mostly Green Day.

The only thing I've heard by Hozier is Take Me to Church, but that song was sooo good. I need to listen to more of their stuff.

  4. I love the John Mayer Beyonce cover .... aaaaaaaand thats about all I know of this list. But Im always down for new music so Im going to check them out!

  5. I love that you admit to expert level deception tactic of headphones on + no actual sound coming out of them. That's when you know that people are the worst killers of productivity and perfection. Shockingly it's not still too hot here in Tennessee. It's mild and rainy. I've actually caught a summer cold from the highs and lows, meaning my fall has started a little early and my playlist has flipped over to Indie acoustic covers I adore.

  6. I also haven't heard of any of these songs but I shall check them out now! Right now I am listening to Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid hahaha.
I am SO not ready for fall. I am ready for Summer, but it apparently didn't come to KY. Next year, lets swap cities?

  7. I feel you on the headphones trick. its too bad it doesn't work for me anymore at my new office, people just keep talking to me until I take them off. grrr. so hard to get stuff done when all some of my coworkers want to do is talktalktalk. and the last two days in Denver have been chilly and I'm loving it. bring on fall!

  8. Look at that list, I haven't heard of most of those songs. I feel like my taste in music is completely random, but its mine so its ok. ;)

  9. My fall is packed but somehow the pace seems slower anyway. Less hours of daylight maybe? I don't know. That's the only thing I don't look forward to - less light.

I work daily in an atmosphere where I need to write and edit flawlessly and sit with people on the phone all day. I frequently work in the conference room or when the project is too large, at home.

  10. I wish i could sit and listen to tunes all day but I have to get on the phone too much. Le sigh. My husband loves XX!! I recognize a few songs on your list :)

  11. YES! So ready for fall to get here. Just like you said, I'm ready for things to slow down. I'm a summer girl through and through but fall is just... magical.

  12. I'm over this humidity, but I wouldn't say I'm ready for fall. Or rather what follows, that nasty Old Man Winter. Blech. I'm that pita that's on the phone when people need to concentrate on crunching numbers all around me, but I didn't set up the office! I love so many of these, but I think my fave is Octahate. I've been listening to a lot of MisterWives, Years&Years, and Bleachers... I'm not sure what category they fall into, but I like it!

  13. Hozier's whole album is so good! And I love that John Mayer XO cover too :) You go girl!

  14. I haven't heard the John Mayer cover XO. I need to go check that out pronto!

  15. Ryn Weaver, Hozier, Justin Nozuka...great selection of songs to transition into fall.
