Sunday Sweats 70: Training Week 10 + New Jersey Half Marathon

Monday: studio yoga class (75 minutes)
Amazing Kelly class this morning. My favorite thing was that—completely by chance—Kelly and I have some exact same transitions and parts of sequences in our class this week. Great minds think alike? I subbed for an evening class too so it was another yoga-filled Monday, and oh how I love those.

Tuesday: studio yoga class (75 minutes)
Today = frustration central. I was in dire need of an adjustment, even more so after I sat in an extra 30 minutes of traffic on my way to the chiropractor because of (gasp!) precipitation (and the horrible driving it encourages) and a fender bender that NEEDED to obstruct an entire lane of traffic in a heavy merge area. And then, also due to said horrible driving, I couldn't make it to the studio in time (missed it by like 2 minutes—I don't go into class late) for Donna's class so I missed seeing her for the second week in a row. I did make it back over to the studio for the amazing late class with a teacher I hardly ever get to practice with. Silver lining.

Wednesday: 3.14 miles (8:55 pace)
Sub-9 pace and negative splits (9:02, 9:00, 8:50) without putting in any substantial effort until the last half mile. Looks good to me for a taper week run.

Thursday: studio yoga class x2 (150 minutes)
Kelly completely kicked my ass this morning, but it was a great class and I felt really awesome throughout it. When it came time for Taryn's class after mine tonight, I was basically useless! Couldn't hold a balance for anything and my hamstrings were dead. Always have fun with the Thursday night crew though.

Friday: rest
Unplanned but purposeful rest day. Might have gotten another run in, but I got busy with other stuff and realized 2 miles as many days before the next race isn't going to do a damn thing for me, so I threw my legs up the wall for as much of the day as I could instead.

Saturday: home yoga practice (20 minutes)
Subbed a class this morning and I think it was the biggest group I've had to teach to yet—33 yogis. Spent some time on my mat at home working everything out and getting my body ready for the race tomorrow!

Sunday: New Jersey Half Marathon
Full race recap post coming this week!

Weekly Totals
Running: 16.24 miles
Yoga: 320 minutes

Reflections:
I'm officially out of a training cycle. My absolute hope is that I can re-find the part of me that runs because it's fun and because it makes me come alive. That part of me has come and gone and come back and gone again quite a bit over the last few months. I'm looking ahead to my next two big goal races, one this fall and one next spring, but not yet working toward them. I'm going to spend the rest of the spring and summer working on me first.

  1. Two yoga classes in a day?! I'd be dead. And great job on your 5k pace! That's my goal - to get a 5k in under 9 minute miles.
